Press Release June 2016
The two-year association between MHD Productions Ltd, online training for hairdressers, and City & Guilds, a leader in skills development, has proved a resounding success. City & Guilds’ MHDAcademy.com resource has become the preferred multimedia training option for City & Guilds hairdressing and barbering courses.
City & Guilds is already the market leader in providing hairdressing and barbering qualifications in the UK, with 72% market share delivering qualifications to over 15,000 students per year. The City & Guilds MHDAcademy.com resource is now proving just as popular with over 60% of centres now on board and some colleges have made the resource a mandatory part of training for all trainers and students.
City & Guilds MHDAcademy.com launched in September 2014 following an exclusive agreement between MHD Productions and City & Guilds. The resource is designed to bring training for hair and barbering students into the 21st century digital world and ensure they are up to date on all the latest trends.
The two companies united their existing portfolios to offer innovative and high quality professional video-based resources online. The videos, which provide training on the latest techniques, qualification performance criteria and knowledge, are backed by key experts in the industry including Stacey Broughton and Tim Hartley. Accessible via computer, tablet and mobile phone, this means easy access to 937 videos, with 1715 supporting PDFs, schemes of work, lesson plans, step by steps, head sheets, and a range of other support resources, bringing the classroom into the salon for the first time.
The resources also support teachers to engage learners effectively, enabling them to progress at their own individual pace. The technology is designed to make it easier for trainers to track individuals’ performances for full visibility of all students and classes – helping them to stretch and challenge learners to achieve their full potential.
The teaching material is aimed at learners undertaking NVQs, VRQs and SVQs from Levels 1 – 3 and also includes embedded Maths & English Functional Skills components to help learners develop the core employability skills needed by employers.
Diane Mitchell, Portfolio Advisor for Hair and Beauty from City & Guilds, said: “City & Guilds continually strives to offer the very best in training, using the latest technology to ensure our students are prepared for work in today’s salon. MHDAcademy.com offers students access to the best hairdressers in the world, creating a benchmark in training standards – and this is the reason it has become one of the best performing resources we offer colleges for Hair and Barbering. Our trainers and students love it – and as it can be continuously updated it will never be out of date.”
Sarah Oglesby, Director of Quality Assurance at MHD Productions said, “MHDAcademy.com took two years’ development from conception to being released and I am delighted at its success in such a short period of time. As of September 2015 this resource is the first to market to fully map the new National Occupational Standards in hairdressing and barbering, which now allows tutors across the globe to standardize their delivery of qualifications with the best hairdressers in the world. The resource has been fully developed to support tutors to deliver teaching, learning and assessment outlined in the OFSTED common inspection framework.”
MHD Productions Ltd is seeking international partners to introduce MHDAcademy.com into new territories.
